AN EXAMPLE WORK SCHEDULE FOR A GRAPHIC NOVEL - The following gives a general idea of how long and what is involved in producing the artwork for a full Graphic Novel.
Assuming a full colour 64 page graphic novel is required, which will also require full colour cover artwork and 6 main character designs. There would be four stages to creating the graphic novel; Prep, Development, Production and Post Production.
PREP - Days 1 - 5. This would involve the following; • Creating moodboards for all man characters and locations, with style and colour palette references • Rough sketch designs of the 6 main characters • Rough sketches of Cover Artwork
Style, Direction, Script and Sketch Artwork is approved and locked. NOTE: If the style, direction or script is changed afterwards at any point, the project would likely go back to Prep and there will be additional charges for the extra work it entails.
DEVELOPMENT - Days 6 – 18. This would involve the following; • Create finished Character Concept Artwork • Create rough layout of the graphic novel pages • Animatic elements to be identified and storyboarded • Cover Artwork Created • Artwork and sketch layout approved by Client.
PRODUCTION - Days 18 – 38 This would involve the following; • Graphic Novel is inked, coloured and lettered. • Artwork provided as layered PSD files, unless agreed otherwise.
POST PRODUCTION - Days 38 – 42. This Production would involve the following; • Snagging • Publicity Artwork
TOTAL NUMBER OF WORKING DAYS: 42. Additional Elements to consider that are not included in the above; • Animatic Teaser Trailer (Extra cells may need creating plus storyboards) • Mobile Phone App artwork and design (Artwork for App developers) • Mobile Phone Content (i.e. Wallpapers, Screensavers etc) • Printed Media (i.e. Graphic Novel Print Ready Artwork, Clothing and Accessory designs etc) Website Artwork
